What does the Specialist Status Mean?

Learning Japanese is fun  Primary Spanish Day  French Exchange 2009  Lesson in China

Bishop Vesey’s Grammar School achieved Specialist School status in 2002 and was re-designated in 2006.

Our aims as a Language Specialist School are to:

1. Raise levels of achievement and opportunity in Languages – within our own school, in our partner schools and in our local community.

2. Promote a whole school ethos which is international, technological, enterprising and vocational.

3. Develop and share with others teaching approaches and resources which will promote effective learning in languages and positive attitudes towards other cultures and societies.

What do we do to make this happen?

Excellent ICT Facilities  Bangra Drummers  Kabbadi Cultural Day
  • We offer a wide range of languages, including Latin. Indeed all of our GCSE students study at least one language.
  • Highly qualified teachers who all teach their specialist language to A-Level

  • Coaching primary school teachers in language teaching and working in partnership with local primary schools to develop exciting and innovative language learning.
  • Excellent ICT facilities and new teaching technologies such as our video editing suite.
