Sixth Form students at Bishop Vesey's Grammar School have been helping charity Strip Amnesty to collect football kits to send out to South Africa for this year's football World Cup.

"The Strip Amnesty started out as an initiative that would enable our city to show its social responsibility on the international stage. The concept was to collect "redundant" football shirts from fans of our local clubs and then get them shipped to South Africa for distribution to underprivileged children during the World Cup later this year" said Chloe Jones of Strip Amnesty who supplied both posters and a collection box to the school.

"It's a very worthwhile cause," said Bishop Vesey Sixth Former Andrew Cotterill. "We've been trying to get involved by encouraging children to bring in their shirts to help children who are less fortunate than them. We've been doing assemblies and getting the message around the whole school in the hope of raising as many kits as possible for a fairly unknown charity who are trying to do a lot of good purely through goodwill."

The school wishes to extend thanks to Boldmere Falcons Junior Football Club for their incredibly generous donation of over 50 shirts. Thanks go to Steve Tregenna, Simon Moore and David Griffiths for assembling the collection.

If you would like to donate to this cause, you can send any strips to: Shoosmiths, 125 Colmore Row, Birmingham, B3 3SH. You can also call 03700 864 217 for more information or visit http://www.stripamnesty.org
